B-Hash

My name is Brian 'B-Hash' Hayashi. I'm a full stack software engineer who leans frontend, based out of Los Angeles. I'm currently working at a start-up called EngineEars, but before that, I spent several years working as the founding engineer at a start-up called StartPlaying.

I love bridging the gap between product development and technical execution to make a feature come to life! I've led various projects that required me to work cross-functionally with Product and Design to build and deploy UI components that could handle complex workflows at scale. I've taken ownership of architectural decisions, communicated technical solutions to non-technical stakeholders, and mentored junior developers. Beyond my technical skills, I've led workshops on how to approach product development.

Most of my experience is in web development with JavaScript or more specifically TypeScript. I've built various apps using React, NextJS, Python, Django, GraphQL, Prisma, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB.

Outside of Coding

I'm half Japanese and half American. After graduating from Carnegie Mellon University with a degree in Biology, I pursued a PhD in Medicinal Chemistry at the University of Michigan. I left to go work in the film industry in Los Angeles. I've worked on various films, TV shows, music videos, and commercials. Eventually, I worked as a Production Coordinator at Conde Nast Entertainment - I even got to be in some of the videos!

I love cooking (I make a mean carbonara pasta) and I love learning languages. I can speak Japanese somewhat conversationally and I know a few words in Spanish, Korean, French, Italian, Ukranian, and Russian.
